Marble Mountain, Seravezza

For the more adventurous an afternoon trip to Marble Mountain is in order. With packed lunches and a drive of approximately 45 minutes we arrive in the hillside town of Seravezza, in the heart of "marble" country. The cars are parked and we begin a 15 - 20 minute walk to the river bed and from here it is possible to find large blocks of marble to sunbathe, read, or take dips in the crystal clear icy cold water or stand under the waterfalls. After a couple of hours relaxation, it's off to the local bar for refreshment, then to a spectacular vantage point at the nearby Romanic Church of San Martino, made entirely of marble. The rose window on the church facade is attributed to Michelangelo and is known as "Michelangelo's Eye". Michelangelo mined quarries beneath the church during his time in Seravezza.
