One of Sicily's biggest attractions is Mount Etna, approximately 3350m high, but this changes with each eruption, some of which over the centuries have reached the coast. This volcano is one of the most active in Europe and is in almost a constant state of eruption.
Mount Etna is 1 hour by car from Syracuse and guided bus tours can be taken up to the summit. It is possible to ski on the slopes in the winter and hike through the woods in the summer months.
