Barga

Barga is a great "Scottish" town to visit in an afternoon. Its close ties with Scotland should be experienced first hand with a wonderful lunch at the "Trattoria Da Riccardo" right outside the historic walls at the main car park. An amazing view from the terrace over the Alpi Apuane, great food and staff who speak English with a Glaswegian accent! (Bring a translator).

After lunch spend a couple of hours exploring the beautiful historic centre with loads of interesting art galleries, a wonderful 12th century cathedral and more importantly some of the best ice cream parlours in the area! Also a great town to pick up some local produce.

Situated in the Serchio Valley, Barga makes an excellent starting point for touring the Garfagnana.

Barga also hosts traditional folkloric and musical events such as Opera Barga and Barga Jazz.

Historically, the area has close links with Scotland, where many Barghigiani emigrated in the early part of the century, often to work in the catering trade.
